A heart-sickening story of a comic book fan and Superman devotee who was swindled out of valuable chunks of his collection by a sleazy predator. (See the original here from colleague Jennifer Mann of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.) The St. Louis-area man fell for Superman because he “was the champion of the oppressed” and a true-blue hero, even if he was fictional. There are real villains out there. Too bad this how he had to find out. The happy ending could have some real heroes: all the supermen and superwomen uniting to not only replenish the collection, but in some corners of the Internet are actually playing sleuth to help track down the bad guy.
Comic retailers and collectors in the general St. Louis area should keep their eyes open for anyone selling Superman memorabilia and comics. A mentally disabled fan from Granite City, Illinois has been robbed of thousands of dollars worth of his personal collection.

A mentally disabled man was tricked and robbed by a jackass of some of his most precious items.
Full story here. Also on reddit. Folks on Facebook are planning on sending him Superman loot, which is pretty damn cool.
Please reblog this. Get the word out! Let’s help this guy recover his items from this scumbag.
Edit: Mike’s relatives are keeping up with the internet reaction and one has reported relaying comments to him. The thief’s name is apparently Gerry (but pronounced Gary, as reported). His supposed phone number was posted on a different Facebook profile (you can find it in the link with the full story) (eta: now gone, replaced with a supposed full name). It’s helping already! Let’s keep it up!
